Better Off With You
When people feel like a burden on their loved ones, it can become too much to handle. It can even start to feel like the people in your life would be better off if you weren’t around.
We developed communications products that sensitively communicated with people at risk of suicidal ideation directly.
The brief
When people feel like a burden on their loved ones, it can become too much to handle. It can even start to feel like the people in your life would be better off if you weren’t around.
This feeling of burden is an aspect of suicidal thinking which is not often discussed.
SANE Australia developed a concept for a suicide prevention trial in two select regions (one in NSW and one in Queensland), focusing on addressing perceived burdensomeness amongst people at risk of suicide.
Idea
Working closely with SANE, Think HQ helped bring the Better Off With You campaign to life.
We developed communications products that sensitively communicated with people at risk of suicidal ideation directly. We worked with SANE to create materials that reminded people of the value they bring to the people around them, and no matter how they might feel, their lives matter to their loved ones and the community.
Outcomes
In the six month lead up to the trial, Think HQ produced:
- The campaign brand, establishing a look and feel that would resonate with our target audience
- A website, delivering specific content to each of the pilot areas. The website housed video stories of people with lived experience of suicidal ideation and attempts, as well as information about burdensomeness and links to support services
- Digital marketing materials, including imagery and copy for social media advertising targeted towards each location
- Stakeholder packs, including content for local businesses and individuals to share and support the campaign through their networks
- Communications plans, including a stakeholder engagement strategy and website content plan.
