Data's no good in the dark

THE BRIEF As the place where Australians lodge complaints about financial products and providers, AFCA’s mission includes a commitment to make the significant data it captures accessible. This data is rich, but it’s dense – it needed to be made transparent, accessible, and most of all, user friendly.

IDEA Think HQ designed and built the AFCA Datacube, a data visualisation and comparison website to make AFCA’s data sets on the issues, types and outcomes of financial complaints easy to search, compare and interpret for everyone. By converting this data into interactive and visually engaging formats, the site makes the insights accessible to a wide audience, from consumers and financial firms, to researchers and policymakers.

OUTCOME Since its launch in 2020, the AFCA Datacube has become a vital tool for enhancing transparency and understanding of financial complaints in Australia. Think HQ has maintained an ongoing partnership with AFCA, continuously updating and maintaining the platform to ensure it remains current and relevant. The sixth and most recent update, which includes data from July to December of 2023, reflects this commitment to providing up-to-date insights for members.
