Since arriving at Think HQ, you’ve gelled quickly with the team and really hit the ground running. What are your first impressions of Think HQ?
I’m extremely impressed with everybody's passion and drive to work on projects with purpose. It’s a refreshing office full of bright ideas, quick wit and friendly faces!
You’ve worked in corporate for most of your career, what spurred your decision to cross over and work in agency?
I worked in agency land for 12 months in Auckland, which gave me a taste of agency life. I really appreciate how agile you can be working in this sort of environment. When was the last time you thought about organ donation?
I’m guessing for a lot of you the answer is ‘I don’t even know’ or ‘this week but only because I watched an episode of Grey’s Anatomy’.
For 1 in 3 Australians their answer would probably be ‘when I registered as an organ donor’ because that is how many are currently on the Australian Organ Donor Register.
For the 510 families who lost a loved one last year and the 1,402 Australians who received a life-changing transplant the answer to this question would mean more to them than most.
If you were to ask young Australians you’d most likely receive the first set of answers. Young Australians have the lowest rate of registrations as organ donors. Of Australians aged 18-24 only 8% are registered – 65% female, 35% male.

What is Lumin?
The recently launched Lumin is an online learning platform for the development of marketing, social media and communications skills.
Created by communications agency Think HQ, Lumin is designed specifically for the social change and community sectors.
Founder of Lumin and Think HQ, Jen Sharpe created the platform to empower and educate organisations in their communications efforts.
“From working with clients in this space, we understand that the reality is many organisations don’t have the budget and resources to engage a communications agency, but desperately need this knowledge and guidance.”
Lumin is designed to account for all levels of experience, empowering those who have little experience to learn the basics but also for those who already have some knowledge on the topic to build upon this.

You came to Think HQ after having spent much of your early adulthood travelling and living abroad, how has this experience helped shape your career?
Leaving a small town in New Zealand in my early 20s, I wasn’t in a hurry to pursue a career until I was sure I knew what I wanted to do. Spending quite a few years really absorbing other cultures and ways of life gave me a tremendous amount of perspective and respect for the journey of others. Travel can be incredibly self-reflective- and this time enabled me to really define who I was, what motivated me, and what my values were. Some notable experiences in South America and South East Asia solidified my interest working within the social impact space- I then launched into my career, like a bull out of the gates!
I’ve slowed down a bit more now and learnt to enjoy and reflect on each stage of my career journey. I figure that you spend such a big part of your life working and you will feel much more fulfilled if your values and ethics...Read More

Australia’s generosity is declining. A lack of spending recorded in recent months leaves us thinking about the impact this may have on the social change sector during the festive season.
The Charities Aid Foundation World Giving Index 2017, released in September, ranked Australia sixth across the globe. That’s a drop of three places, knocking Australia out of the top five. We’ve been overtaken by Myanmar, Indonesia, Kenya, New Zealand and the USA.
The outcomes of the 2017 CAF Giving Index, and low consumer spending, highlight the need to challenge thinking on how we frame giving for Australians who aren’t in a position to give money to charity. There are many opportunities to encourage Australians to participate in alternate ways and continue the dialogue about how Australians can make an impact at this time of year.
